TREATNG A PAINFUL WISDOM TOOTH AT HOME

If your wisdom tooth is giving you a certain amount of discomfort, or if it is potentially impacted, you have to immediately visit your dentist. However, there are some simple ways to alleviate the pain while you await treatment.

If you are over 20 years of age, you can drink aspirin as recommended to relieve the toothache. Never put aspirin directly on your gums as it may cause inflammation. For those below twenty, aspirin is not advised as it may cause Reye’s syndrome.

On top of which, you should swish warm water with salt in your mouth every 3 hours or so. Put a clean ice pack on the side of your cheek where the pain is, and leave it there for about 20 minutes. Let your cheeks rest from the cold for about 10 to 15 minutes and repeat to soothe the pain.

Have your dentist recommend certain pain relievers to help you cope with your problem while you wait for your tooth to be extracted. On top of which, always keep your mouth clean so as not to aggravate the problem by potentially making yourself vulnerable to gum disease-causing bacteria.

When it comes to pain relievers, follow the recommended dosage and do not take too much of it. Doing that is dangerous, and can also heighten your immunity to pain relievers. This is not something that you want to happen (especially since you need to be plied with a general anesthetic to cope with the pain of the surgery). Do not self-medicate as some drugs you take in can conflict with the anesthetic that will be given to you before the procedure.
